Dust-allergies?

When I mention to someone that I’m allergic to dust, and that doing everyday cleaning and stuff like that bogs up my head and nasal channels and that I really hate doing it, people snort and smile in an “Hah, I know what you are….” way. The fact of the matter is that whirling up all that dust is awful. It’s actually so awful that the average symptoms of me being a bit more tired, and with slightly more troubled breathing, is vastly preferred to 1 to 2 days of feeling messed up completely. That’s the sad soppy story. I try to do something about the dust as often as possible. I just really hate it, and the number of sources to feed my allergy is pretty staggering. Let’s take an example that suddenly occured to me one day:

Since I was a kid I’ve always loved sleeping without a pillow. I really detested pillows, and I could never really figure out why, because it’s usually far more comfortable to put my head down on a pillow than on a hard mattress or my shirt or whatever. So I’ve always been sleeping without a pillow, even in the military where I got some seriously odd looks from my officers that wanted to know why my bed was speshul and different from the others’ ( I even opted for sleeping without the actual stuffy thing inside the cover that I never remember the name of, but that’s because I can get so stupidly hot ).

This lasted until I had Deandri visiting this summer. I think it was during the summer. I kept using the pillow she had used because it still smelled like her and I’ve always liked the way her hair smells, even after the smell was gone and it’d been washed. So the pillow-cover was being washed, and I slept alot better all of a sudden. I mean way better. A week later I got around to putting the pillow back in place, and I slept better than the previous nights again! I instantly assumed that this was because I was having a bad week or something, so I plodded along like I always have.

The next time the pillow went back to being washed I believe I got the connection, if I remember correctly, because I had a rather decent nights sleep all of a sudden again. That was with all the bed-stuff nice and clean. You don’t suppose the stupid dust settles in the pillow in particular, and hits me straight in my ventilation-holes, do you? Argh! So obvious, yet it took me years and years to figure it out!

So now I wash the stuff as soon as I remember it, and I’ve quit using a pillow again, so I sleep alot better. Not as well as I’d like, but alot better. If I could only remember to wash it often enough!

aww..you know. There are also anti-allergy pillows, for example snugnights.co.uk…

One might consider the carpet and woven wallpaper as well, they collect dust to an extreme degree. And curtains… And an open door at night allowing wind to whisk dust around… and there is nothing here that smells like you.

Anti-allergy pillows. I’ll consider it. Never really thought of that, although I suppose I’ll just clean really frequently instead, since I have to anyways :p
