I remember Epic Movie looked hilarious as hell. In the trailer. I remember Scary Movie looked funny as hell. In the trailer. I remember alot of movies that looked funny as hell. In the, wait for it, fracking trailer! When I actually got around to seeing them I found myself chuckle on the odd occasion at the play on words, like “He told me to polish his knob” in Epic Movie because it was so completely unexpected, and perhaps to an extent because I love puns. It’s like the movie’s IQ went up one point, or something, to a total of 4,1.

I’ll be using Epic Movie as an example since that’s the one I can remember the best right now, and even that’s not much. Now I know that these movies are made in large for the American audience, and I can understand that they’re sent abroad to us here in pee-wee Europe to make an extra buck or two. You know, I even understand why people go to watch it - the trailer, and the lure of a good laugh. People want to be able to laugh at a movie. A comedy that you can laugh at is amazing, a wonderful rarity.

What really amazes me is that a brilliant movie like Hot Fuzz, and the even better Death at a Funeral, doesn’t even reach our cinemas. Epic Movie does. A huge majority loved those two movies. 8.1 and (strangely low) 7.4 at IMDB for cheesecakes! Epic Movie got a 2.3, and still we saw trailers and whatchacallit’s all over the place. Why they don’t promote movies like Hot Fuzz and Death at a Funeral better is beyond me. Do they expect, for some daft reason, that they won’t be doing well just because they’re a work of genius british movie-making, or do they smoke lots of funny pink stuff at work when they make decisions?

The reason for this post is that I watched the really horrible trailer of Meet the Spartans, which was horrible because it wasn’t even remotely funny in any way, and epic flashes to an epically (sp/gr?) poor movie went through my head. They have to be for kids, 13 and below. That market’s got a big enough cash-flow, sure, but why don’t they massively market movies that actually makes you laugh, like the aforementioned ones as well? It’s a bigtime loser if not even the trailer can make my smile twitch. Very bigtime loser.

Maybe, some day, I will understand how the producers and promoters think. Maybe. Some day. For now I’ll just shake my head in disbelief at the amount of time, effort and money thrown into the toilet for no apparent reason other than making a pitiful buck or two. Perhaps there’s a massive market there, among the kids and “speshul peepul”, I’m just certain there’s a bigger one for the good movies.

[Edit:
HOLY HELLS! Meet the Spartans is at the US top box office. I'm taken by complete surprise. I should definately have checked out things a bit better before I wrote this. How the hell does something like this happen when there's a million better movies out there, that's even got humour, a good message, and quality? It's FRACKING BEYOND ME! Just like this blogger mentions intellect, I sincerely question the broad range of intellectual midgets in the nation across the pond. I did before too, but only as a half-joke, now it's not even funny anymore. Or maybe it's not intellect, it's just stumped taste in movies entirely, a stumped nation in general. Maybe it's a failed promotional engine. Whichever it is, something's failed.

I bet it'll top in Europe too, just to prove we've got our fair share of retards as well.]

“The saying goes that Christmas is supposed to last ’til Easter”, while New Years happens only once. I call bullshit. New years lasts for a whole year, while Christmas lasts for only 3 days. Whoever came up with that saying needs a reality-check, though they’re probably long gone.

You’d seriously think that with all the commotion and all the bangs being over and done with, atleast the majority of it, you’re pretty done with New Years. A pity it’s just getting started, and you won’t be able to sleep in in the mornings onwards unless it’s a weekend, or you’ve worked up extra hours. It’s a whole year after all. Regardless(!) I’ve decided to once again skip anything resembling a new years resolution, except with the possible exception of not eating so damned much when the holiday dinners approach, and try as hard as I can to not be an unsocial bugger. Thankfully they’re not new years resolutions.

On the topic of new years resolutions I read in passing the other day that Paris Hilton’s made getting a new boyfriend a resolution. If it was meant as a joke or not I can’t be entirely sure, but you never know with these youngsters nowadays, especially not with the ones that manage to fuck up so badly that they lose out on a multi-billion $ fortune inheritance. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the thought of spending a lot of time with someone that manages to screw up so badly, manages to disprove the old saying that “Any PR is good PR”, and still shows herself in public. It made me laugh anyways (if I meet, and fall for her in the future, this blog-post is so going to bite me in the ass. I’m going to assume that won’t happen).

Christmas eve was celebrated as usual. Family, talking alot, much jokage abound with lots of good food. Me and my brother consuming moderate amounts of alcohol, with my mother still thinking for some reason that by simply sniffing the aquavit we’ll turn belly up drunk and go rioting in the proverbial streets.

I did manage to squeeze in the joke, on … some day… can’t remember now, that since we’d eaten up all the foodstuffs there was only one consumable left - the drinkstuffs. Much to my surprise my mother didn’t seem too horrified by the prospect of us hitting the drinks instead of the food. Then again none of us in the family’re heavy drinkers. Or rather, me’n my brother can be heavy drinkers, it’s just not particularly spectacular. Quite the opposite: He gets “dry stick in the mud”-serious, and I get tired. I suppose there’s a reason for me not being an excessive drinker, perspective pending and notwithstanding.

Me’n my brother saw extraordinary amounts of movies this christmas as well. So many we’re not particularly sure which ones either, as most of them sort of disappears in the haze of movies that we saw, and it was a haze of movies, not a drunken haze. We’re not accustomed to it, but I think we’ll be going back to normal levels now that he’s not staying for longer than 2 hours at a time and I don’t set up 50 billion movies on download anymore.

I do know that I saw The 5th Element for the, probably, 8th time or something like that. I think I like it so much because of the colors, the sounds, the music, the actors, the story, the theme. I reckon that’s alot of good reasons. So much to like about it, and my only complaint is that it’s so short. 2 hours is far too little for a work of genius like that, although I’m pretty sure it would’ve been pretty washed out if they made it much longer. Not that I know for sure, and it’s unlikely that I would care.

You’ve got brilliant moments in the movie like Zorg’s eye-twitching when he’s irritated (I love Gary Oldman’s acting), Bruce Willis’ stoic attitude, Chris Tucker in his most (and only) brilliant role ever. Not to mention the amazing collage of scenes weaved in alongside the music. The little things, the big things. It’s a brilliant movie, and I can’t help but loving it. We even bought the music from the movie, and I still listen to the whole album when it pops up on winamp.

In the new year I’ve found that Tafse and Tvilsom are still my two favourite words in Norwegian. Maybe I should another one on T to adore in a mesmerized fashion. Like Tøyse. Maybe. Maybe not.

What I’m trying to say is that Christmas is far too short, New Years Eve is far too short, and the year’s too damned long.

There’s a bunch of places I visit for my usual fixes, be it for comics, torrents or just forums. My list has cropped up to be rather huge at times, turning up to over 100 sites and irc-channels, and you can correctly assume that that is way too much for just one person to be doing for a longer period of time. Eventually I burnt out, and stopped visiting any of them altogether. At some point I cleaned it out and removed all of them, stayed off the net for a while, and when I came back I approached it all by memory. It’s worked out quite nicely for a while now, and I’m at a rather limited amount of visits, with a few sporadic ones.

ComixFixes
Sinfest.net - The funniest of them all. Religion, media, anything “holy” is touched and ridiculed. I love this guy.
Striptease - Funny, serious, with a whiff of drama. Strangely funny, and I keep returning to it.
ErrantStory - Probably my favourite story-teller of them all. Funny, and creative. He might not be the best, but his style is nice and familiar by now, and he’s really good with what he’s got.
AppleGeeks - There’s something hilarious about apple-geeks with self-irony, and creating good stories with an amazing pencil.
PennyArcade - A sharp pencil, great wit and amazing skill. Hilarious fun-poking at games and the gaming-industry.
GU Comics - One man, one comic, one loooong string of good laughs. Woody Hearn deserves visits. Repeated ones at that.

ForumFixes
TheFlamingRuby.net - The site of the WoW-guild I am a member of. Nice people I wouldn’t want to be without. Been my home in WoW since March ‘05 I think. Probably makes me one of the oldest active members there as well.
ElitistJerks.com - I play WoW. I want to be as good as possible, and know as much as possible. This is the place for an intelligent discourse on WoW-theorycraft.
Wowace.com - I play WoW. I use addons for WoW. This is where I get my addons for WoW.
apforums.net - One Piece is the best manga ever. Yes, it’s been said. This is where I hang to find releases and discussions about this downright brilliant manga.

NewsFixes
BBC.com - The best source for news in the world, in my opinion. They’ve always felt like the more reliable source of news.
vg.no - Shitty, full of ads, and takes an eternity to load. Still one of the biggest news-outlets in Norway amply aided by a short address.
slyck.com - Small, critical, and still in the game. It might not be the biggest, but it offers news, and a place to find it, about the p2p world.
gamespot.com - Big, bad, and clunky to load, but still the best source for news about games.
arstechnica.com - One of the better and more interesting sites about tech-news and such. It feels good atleast.
Independent Comics Site - This is partially a comixfix, but eh… news about comics is always cool *grins*

OddFix
I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER ? - I love cats, and these cats are hilarious in addition. I visit this site every now and then, and I never fail to be amused.

I should admit that I’m pretty bad at visiting blogs or sites beyond these with any regularity for reasons I’m not entirely sure about.

Got a minor slap by Deandri today, which made me tweak the site a bit more. I removed the RSS stuff on the side, and added a more visible button in the header. I think it looks a lot better now, so throw me some roses or some shit, depending on what you think *grins*
All kudos to Morgh.us for his initial help on the Last.FM plugin’s placement as it’s still helping me on the site. Sir, you are awesome \o/

I’m considering to remove the google-funding on the site, as it’s not really doing anything practical there at the moment except taking up a whole lot of space :>

On a completely different topic I really loved Transformers, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Die Hard 4.0 ( aka Live Free Or Die Hard ). Seen them all in the cinemas now, and they were worth every Øre ( about the same as a penny in equivalence. Yes, I could have written “equivalent to a penny”, but nah =P ). It’s so awesome to watch movies in the cinema, it’s a very special feeling, and when the movies were totally worth the money it’s something that makes you want to go see another one. I mean seriously, you who think piracy is screwing over the cinemas can go fuck yourselves *nodnod* I watched Transformers and Die Hard 4 on cam before I went to the cinemas, and all it did was make me alot more keen on watching them XD

Die Hard 4 is amazing. You get to see John McClane kick ass again. What more do you need?!
If you need more I can tell you that he’s more gritty, older and cooler. Yes, it’s possible, and yes he is! \o/
I even faintly liked his sidekick, which wasn’t a complete and utter retard of a comical relief, on the contrary he did serve a purpose. I hate comical relief, they ruin things in the way that sit-coms should be called trying-to-be-funnies-but-fail. Oh, and his daughter was cool too, and yes they added kids in the picture and it didn’t turn out cheesy as hell.

Transformers is a visit to see big bad robots kick the oil out of each other and snot out of humans. Just that is bloody cool. To my joy and glee I get to see a good-looking chick, a funny guy ( yes, he was kind of funny in alot of ways. For some reason he fits perfectly into the role without looking like a complete dumbass comical relief ), great supporting characters and … so much greatness!
Go watch it, and wait for the “Guh… disgusting.”. I don’t think I’ve been this happy about a villain in ages <3
[Edit] Not enough Megatron by the way ><

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a movie I tried to get a decent cam of before I went to watch it in the cinemas, but unfortunately the quality was so downright piss-poor I didn’t bother. Despite that little disappointment I couldn’t not ( yes, a double negativ. Enjoy *grins* ) see it as soon as there was a window open for it. So we went; me, Eldholm and Deandri to watch this famous movie that was supposed to be “Ok” according to her, and amazing according to the world.
Me? I thought it was the best of the series. It had everything I could ask for, be it character development, Longbottom ( that guy’s so cool ), special effects, and so on. It rocked, so TOTALLY rocked, and the London fly-by/through made me slightly giddy *grins*

I revisited The Usual Suspects, and Boondock Saints again by the way. Another two movies that I warmly recommend that is safely tucked in among the best movies I have ever seen.

I wonder which movies I’ve seen lately that I forgot to mention. Probably a few *grins* I bet Deandri could remind me ;D

Sweating, and feeling pretty beaten. [Edit] Probably due to heavy drinking the night before! Went to the kitchen and drank loads of water and went back to bed, after washing my face of course. Woke up again at around 12:30, as the first one to get up. Ate some food and had alot of coffee, and even more water. Sat down to surf a bit on the net, feeling pretty worn out and anti-social. Then Daniel got up, and we quickly decided to watch a movie, and so we saw Black Snake Moan. Another brilliant movie, lots of good humour, great story, and a high feel-good factor that didn’t creep me out as cheesy or bad. It was just… nice, albeit a bit slow at times. I really recommend checking it out.

[WoW-Stuff] Then it was raid-time. An average raid, where I lost the bid for the trinket of my wet dreams, something I’ll get over pretty soon. Now, actually. Then we failed to down Karathress, which was a bummer. Not that he drops anything cool, but it’s still a bummer. Warriors tanking trash is really annoying though, you have to wait for them to grab aggro.

[Non-WoW-Stuff] Now I think I’ll go make some food. Damned hungry, and blood-sugar dropping. Wonder what to make…
[Edit] I made baked potatoes, onions, mushrooms, cabbage and had some friend meat on top. Was oddly awesome \o/
